Bring on a New Year and a New Decade!

Happy New Year!!
Do you remember where you were at the beginning of the decade we just left behind? Some of us may have been gripped by fear at the thought of Y2K, and some of us were so young we had no idea what it all meant we were just up for the adventure. As I look back over the last decade of my life I am simply amazed at what God has done. He called me to ministry, moved to me New Orleans to attend seminary, I lost a parent, experienced a devastating Hurricane and the exile from the city that I love, was called to church staff positions that were all in God's timing the going and then the leaving, experienced the deepest of emotional hurts and in the last year of the decade have finally understood what it means to begin the healing process. WOW!! It was an amazing decade.
Jeremiah 29:11 simply states that God knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper and not to harm, plan for our good not for evil. As I look back over the last decade at the joy, the pain, the emotional chaos. I would not trade it for anything in the world, because without it I would not have been able to walk the amazing roads on the this journey of life with the one who loves me in spite of myself and the one who knew me before I was knit together in my mother's womb, Jehovah God himself.
I believe God has amazing things in store for each and everyone of us this brand new year and in this brand new decade. So bring it on 2010 we are ready and armed with the love, grace and mercy of Jesus that is renewed every single morning.

Happy New Year!!!

  1. I bought one of those big Techna flashlights and an extra box of cereal for Y2K. I got sick of cereal and that was that. The decade's biggies for me were the marriages of both daughters, 2 granddaughters with another grandchild on the way, selling our house and moving to New Orleans, seminary, Katrina, three great ministry positions, another 10 years with my beautiful wife, and best and most important, Christ in me every minute, every day.
